Makerbot

The Makerbots are used to print three-dimensional objects.  The Makerbots also are very complicated to print from because you have to scale your object down to millimeters.  To print your object takes a long time because the Makerbot is layering plastic on top of each other.  I think that the Makerbots are extremely cool because printing three dimensional objects is really cool.  The Makerbots are also fun because they only print objects that have “indents”.  The Makerbots cannot print anything that is just a flat box.  Also these printers can’t print objects that are bigger than two millimeters.  When we were printing our objects we had to make a base two inches by two inches by two inches.  This base was only a reference point on how big our object can be.  Once we wanted to print our object we had to erase the base so it didn’t print the base with our object.

In Google Sketchup I created a smiley face.  The actual base of the face was a square.  To give the smiley face a three-dimensional feel I lowered the eyes and mouth.  What this did was make the face seem like it was almost real.  An actual face has the eyes and mouth almost indented into your face.  The face that I created was created in Sketchup and it was more difficult than I thought it would be.  What was hard was scaling the smiley face to make sure that the eyes were the same size.  Also I had to make sure that mouth was not to big in comparison to the eyes and the rest of the face.  Your object had to be created on a flat square measured two inches by two inches by two inches.  I was however in the end able to create my object with some help from Mr. Lewkowitz..

Medici Art

The statue of David is supposed to be an image of Florence.  The church asked Michelangelo to build it so that it would represent Florence rather than the Medici’s being the symbol of the city.  The church thought that the Medicis were trying to take over the city so Michelangelo built to make sure that the Medicis knew that they were not the symbol of the city.  The statue of David is currently in an art gallery in Florence Italy.  The Medicis took Michelangelo into their family when he was a young boy because they believed that he had potential as an artist.  While he was growing up with the Medicis he was taught how to paint and create sculptures.  When he made the statue of David it became the image of the city.  Michelangelo crated many other works for example he was the artist who painted the Sistine Chapel.  I chose to do the sculpture of David because it is known as the symbol of the city.  This sculpture was significant because it was asked to be made by the Catholic church.  This sculpture was created also to show the Medici that they were not the symbol of Florence.  This was significant to the Renaissance because it was a new form of artwork portrayed by the genius of Michelangelo and was shown to the city.  This sculpture however was some what destroyed in a way.  One of the hands fell off and a little boy who fixed the hand and showed it to the duke later.  After the duke saw this he asked the boy to reattach it to the statue.  This young boy grew up to coordinate many famous paintings and create many great pieces of art.

Understanding Color

Color is the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects emits or light.  Triad is a group of three connected people or things.  Chairoscuro is the the treatment of light and shade in a drawing and painting.  Secondary colors are a color of resulting from the mixing of two primary colors green, orange, pink.  Tertiary colors are colors made by mixing one primary color with one secondary color, in a given color space such as RGB or RYB.  Hue is a color or shade: “her face lost its golden hue”.  Intermediates is an act of mediating.  Monochromatic is containing or using only one color.  Value is the relative lightness or darkness of a picture.  Color intensity is the overall shading of the colors.  a complimentary color is either one of two chromatic colors that when mixed together give white (in the case of lights) or grey (in the case of pigments).  Warm colors are (Warm color) In the visual arts, color theory is a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual impacts of specific color.  Soft colors are colors that don’t reflect light as well as warm colors.

Vincent Van Goh’s painting of the Starry Night uses colors in a blended form.  This painting is used with many brush strokes.  It incorporates mainly the primary colors blue, yellow, and black.  Also this painting is unique in the sense that most of the brush strokes are in curved lines.  These strokes are used to combine the colors used in his painting in a way where they combine to create new colors and darken others.

Pompeii Art

I chose this picture because it describes the Pomepiian art culture.  I believe that this Colosseum is a perfect depiction of how cultural the people of Pompeii were.  This picture  is a nice description of what the people enjoyed during this time.  Also this coliseum was used to have shows and host events for the people like large parties for all of the people.  The Colosseum was where most of the events were held during this time period.  From anywhere to making people fight battles against each other or watching big plays that would cultivate the entire era.  Most of the people from this time period were extremely interested in art and new cultural findings.  One way to become more popular was to have glorious or magnificent paintings throughout your house.  Also I feel that this Colosseum was used to showcase many of the new artists work throughout the city.

2nd Point Perspective

Add VideoI chose this image because I believe that it serves as a great example of a two point perspective.  This drawing also helps because the lines are already showing you where each vanishing point is and makes it clear that this is a two point perspective post.  Two setup a two point perspective drawing first draw your horizon line and then pick two vanishing points.  The begin to draw your drawings but you have to make all the lines face towards the vanishing points.  Since the top of the buildings are above the horizon line you don’t see the roof.  The vanishing points can be wherever you want them to be as long as they are on the horizon line.  Which vanishing point that the lines go towards is based upon which side of the page that they are on.

First point perspective is when you draw a scene where every line you draw goes toward the vanishing point.  In first point perspective your vanishing point is on the horizon line.  The horizon line marks where the earth ends and where the sky begins.  Also as the things you drawing get closer towards the horizon lie they get smaller and smaller.  The drawing I chose shows first point perspective because everything goes towards a single point on the horizon line.  All of the lines in this drawing center around the vanishing point.  In this particular drawing the vanishing point is right in the middle of the drawing.  The vanishing point can be anywhere along the horizon line.  First point perspective is about the vanishing point and having your drawings get smaller as you get closer to the horizon line.  If you do these things your drawing should turn out nicely.

Still Life Reflection

The hardest part of drawing the still life was capturing each objects detail.  Also while doing the still life I noticed that shading each object was difficult based on where the light was hitting the object from.  The objects that I think I drew best are the the clock and the gold picture frame.  These two objects were easy to draw because they were basically shapes insides of shapes.  The clock was easily drawn because it was a rectangle inside of another rectangle.  Also while drawing this type of art I noticed that when you are trying to capture all of the detail possible.  The more detail you have the better your picture will be.  There are many factors that affect how you are going to draw certain areas of the drawing.  For example one of how the object is those factors is how the object is placed this affects if you can make the object three dimensional or not.

The artist of this painting is Vincent Van Goh.  This piece of art was created in 1888.  I chose this painting because it portrays a normal everyday thing.  Also this painting captures many things that most paintings do  not portray.  This painting is an extremely simple painting that captures a simple moment.  Also  this piece of art was used to portray I personally think a message.  Also I believe that the message was an extremely important message.  The message was that even the simple things in life should be considered beautiful.  Most of the simple things in life go unappreciated in life and no one appreciates them.  Another reason simple things should be considered beautiful is because some of the most awesome moments are simple.  Some of the greatest moments that happened in my life have been simple moments on the baseball field just me and my thoughts.  That is why I chose to this painting by Vincent Van Goh.

The artists of this painting is Michele Pred.  The title of this is sculpture “Red,Black,White”.  This painting was done in the year 2011.  I chose to do this sculpture because it is paying respect to all those that died during 9/11.  This sculpture is made out of razors, enamel, and wood.  Another reason I chose this book was because this artist is trying to show that we have to remember this day forever.  Also this sculpture represents to me a special feeling because it proves that 9/11 will always be remembered throughout our entire lives.  I personally believe that this sculpture was meant to be something more than just another sculpture.  I believe that this sculpture was meant to be a long lasting representation of how tragic this day was for Americans.  Another reason that I chose this sculpture was because of the lesson that it teaches, I believe that the lesson is that 9/11 was an extremely sad day and a day that we will always remember and mourn about.  Many people gave up their lives to save others; that is why on the anniversary of 9/11 we need to pay our respects to those that saved many from the burning buildings.
